“Well, how did it go?” Vanessa asked from behind the counter when Lydie entered the shop twenty minutes later. “How did my dear cousin take the proffered information?”

Lydie made a face. “The whole thing started off on the wrong foot with some really bad timing.”

“Bad timing? What do you mean?”

“Well, I had a waking dream right there in the lobby of the precinct, just as Nick came out to get me.” Lydie related what had happened, what Henrietta had said to her in her vision, and then how Nick had reacted at first to her information.

“Ah ha!” Vanessa stabbed a finger at her. “I told you that’s how he’d react, didn’t I?”

“You did, and I told him so.” Lydie grinned. “Right after I chewed him up one side and down the other.”

“You didn’t.”

“Yep. Of course, my head was starting to throb, and I wasn’t in any mood after the vision to make nice, so I kind of let him have it.”

Vanessa’s mouth dropped open. “What did he say?”

Lydie gave her a sheepish look. “He apologized several times. Then he actually listened to what I’d come to tell him.”

“Really?”

“Yes, but unfortunately, he pointed out that, while interesting, most of it was gossip, hearsay, or conjecture, which is all true.”

“But did you learn anything?” Aunt Wilma asked as she came in from the workroom. “Get any helpful leads?”

Lydie sighed and shook her head. “Not much. But I did get confirmation on a couple of things. First, that there is an aspect of embezzlement to one of the cases, or maybe both, I’m not sure.”

“Nick shared that with you?” Vanessa asked in a shocked tone.

“He totally didn’t mean to. When I told him what Henrietta said in my vision, I asked if it made sense to him. He said, and I quote, ‘There is a possible embezzlement aspect of this case, but nothing has been confirmed, and there’s been no evidence of blackmail… as of yet.’ When I pressed him for more, he clammed up.”

“Well, that goes right along with my weird dreams from last night. Missing money and possible blackmail. You said you got confirmation on a couple of things,” Wilma said. “What else?”

“Everything Barbara told Vanessa about Doris’ death is true, for one thing.”

Vanessa looked gob-smacked. “I can’t believe that Nick actually told you that, either.”

Lydie grinned. “Oh, he didn’t. His reaction to what Barbara told you was enough. He was really ticked off, wanted to know how she’d found it all out. But, of course, when I asked if it was true, he started the whole backpedal deal. Can’t comment on an active investigation, don’t have confirmation of anything yet. Yada, yada, yada. But my gut says it’s all true.”

“What else?” Wilma asked.

“They already knew about Doris and her affairs but not that Anna Ingram’s hubby was one of the bunch or that Anna knew about the affair.”

Vanessa rubbed her hands together with glee. “Ooo, a sordid mess. How de-lish.”

“So, where do we go from here?” Wilma asked.

“I think we need to find an inconspicuous way to have a chat with Anna Ingram.
